Niemczuk Grzegorz
Gregory Niemczuk has already enjoyed a successful career as a concert pianist, having performed internationally over the past 10 years. He has given more than 400 recitals and concerts in 30 different countries on all 6 continents, including such unusual places as: Tanzania, Jamaica, Curacao, Peru, Brazil, Ethiopia.
He has already performed in many important concert halls in the world: Carnegie Hall in New York, Steinway Hall in New York, Yamaha Artist Services in Paris, Teatro Puccini in Milano, Teatro Civico in Vercelli, Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona, Botanic Gardens in Singapore and many others in cities like Geneve, Warsaw, Oslo, Napoli, Shanghai, Trieste, Weimar, Sofia, Vilnius, Addis-Abeba, Daegu and many others. Mr. Niemczuk’s vast repertoire spans more than 150 solo pieces and 20 piano concerti ranging from the Baroque to the contemporary era. His particular specialty is the Romantic period.
Born in Poland, Gregory Niemczuk graduated with the highest distinction from K. Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice in the class of renowned Professor Josef Stompel (Prizewinner of Enescu Competition in Bucuresti and International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 1960). He continued his piano studies in New York City, Mannes College (International Keyboard Institute and Festival 2008, 2009, 2011) where his teachers were such artists as Menahem Pressler (Indiana University), Philippe Entremont, Joaquin Achucarro (Meadows School of the Arts), David Dubal (The Juilliard School), Jerome Rose (Mannes College), Choong-Mo Kang (The Juilliard School), and Yuan Sheng (Central Conservatory of Music – Beijing). Between 2009 and 2012 he stayed under the artistic care of teacher and mentor Jeffrey Swann (New York Steinhardt University).
Gregory Niemczuk is the winner of many music competitions notably the 2013 International Carnegie Hall Concerto Debut Competition in New York City and 40th National Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (2010). He is also the winner of „Rencontres Internationales des Jeunes Pianistes” in Waterloo, Belgium (2009), the 9th International Piano Competition “Stefano Marizza” in Trieste (2008), the “Janet and William Schwartz Scholarship Award at IKIF in New York City (2008) and the National Festival “Chopin of the Young” competition in Konin, Poland (2008). He has won top prizes at many Chopin Piano Competitions in Lodz, Poland (2004), in Varna, Bulgaria (2005) and in Warsaw, Poland (2006, 2007).
Gregory Niemczuk has performed as a soloist under the baton of such conductors as: Szymon Bywalec, Jan Wincenty Hawel, Maja Metelska, Dariusz Mikulski, Paweł Przytocki, Monika Wolińska. He has also attended many masterclasses where he has collaborated with many great artists such as: Krystian Zimerman (2005), Peter Donohoe (2006), Andrzej Jasiński (2006), Alexey Orlovetsky (2007,2008,2009,2010), Dang Thai Son (2009), Pietro de Maria (2010), Claudio Martinez Mehner (2010,2012), Emanuele Arciuli (2012), Hamish Milne (2012), Michel Beroff (2012), Arie Vardi (2012,2013), Klaus Hellwig (2010), Angela Hewitt (2012). In the years 2009-2013 he was under artistic care of the American pianist and mentor Jeffrey Swann.
He has been invited to play at many important Festivals such as : 65th International Chopin Festival in Duszniki-Zdroj (2010), International Keyboard Institute and Festival in New York (2008,2009,2011), Festival “Dino Ciani” in Cortina d’Ampezzo (2010, 2012), Mosel Musikfestival in Mesenich (2011), “De Varsovie à Paris” in Paris (2010), “La Folle Journee de Varsovie” in the Great Theatre in Warsaw (2010), Franz Liszt Piano Festival in Addis-Ababa (2011), Festival of Young Prizewinners of Music Competitions (Lithuania, Slovakia, Finland), 48th International Moniuszko Festival in Kudowa-Zdroj (2010) or European ‘Jan Kiepura’ Festival in Krynica Zdroj (2010).
During the last two years he has toured Brazil, Peru, Norway, the Carribean. He performed with orchestras in Polish Philharmonic Halls (Jelenia Gora, Kielce) and abroad (Busan Philharmonic Orchestra). In September 2016 he got a Special Prize of the Busan MARU International Music Festival in Busan, South Korea (performing E.Grieg Piano Concerto in the final).
Grzegorz Niemczuk has received many honorable awards in his home country including from Prime Minister, the Ministry of Culture and the President of the city of Tychy and currently serves on the piano faculty of the Silesian University since October 2011. His students are already winners of some international piano competitions in Italy, Slovakia and France.
