PROFESOR WŁODZIMIERZ OBIDOWICZ PASSED AWAY

On 29th June 2016 in Wrocław died Professor Włodzimierz Obidowicz, an outstanding pianist and pedagogue, teacher of many generations of pianists, founding member of the F. Liszt Society in Poland.

 

In 1955 graduated with first class honours from the State High School of Music in Krakow under Prof. Zbigniew Drzewiecki. Since the age of 13 he has given concerts in Poland and abroad (e.g. in Belgium, Holland, Germany). Recorded many times for the Polish Radio and Television and for a radio in Belgium. He was especially fond of performing works of J.S. Bach, F. Chopin and C. Debussy.

 

In 1955 he took up teaching at the State High School of Music in Wroclaw, in 1983 received the title of professor. For nearly 30 years (1972-2001) he was the head of the piano department at the „Karol Lipiński” Academy of Music in Wroclaw, in the years 1969-1972 held the position of the Associate Dean of the Instrumental Faculty, and in the period 1984-1987 – the Vice-Rector of the Academy. His students received a number of awards in Polish and foreign competitions (e.g. in USA and Italy).

 

He was co-initiator and long-term teacher and artistic director of master piano courses in Duszniki Zdrój. Many times a member of juries of Polish and foreign piano competitions.

 

He has received high distinctions and different awards for his artistic and didactic activity.

 

We pay our last respect to the late Prof. Włodzimierz Obidowicz, the outstanding artist and teacher, a man of great culture, nobility and modesty.

Funeral ceremony took place on 2nd July in St Maurice Cemetery at ul. Działkowa (Skowronia Góra) in Wroclaw.
