Smol Mateusz

Mateusz Smol was born in 1990 in Poznan. He started playing violin at the age of six in Karina Gidaszewska’s violin class. Since 1997 He was her student in Wieniawski’s Elementary School of Music in Poznan and later in "School of Talents" in Poznan. Now he studies with Jadwiga Kaliszewska at The Academy of Music in Poznan. Since he started his first class in school he was soon to win Wielkopolski Regional Performing Competition. His later awards include the Grand Prix at National Grazyna Bacewicz Violin Competition in Wroclaw, 1st Prize at National “Young Paganini” Violin Competition in Legnica, 2nd Prize at International Violin Competition “Jeunesses Musicales” in Bucharest, Romania, 3rd Prize at International Andrea Postacchini Violin Competition in Fermo, Italy. He was also laureate of 1st Prize of the Aleksandra Januszajtis Memorial Violin Competition in Gdansk, 2nd Prize at International Robert Canetti Violin Competition in Versailles, France and 1st Prize at National Violin Competition in Elblag. He was also a semifinalist of Michael Hill International Violin Competition in New Zealand. In 1999 he presented acoustic qualities of instruments at National Violin Maker Competition, in 2005 he performed with Leganica Philharmonic Orchestra and Paznan Philharmonic Orchestra, in may 2006 he played on The Opening Ceremony at XI International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Maker Competition in Poznan. In 2008 he played concerts with Moscow Symphony Orchestra “Centra P.Slobodkina” in Moscow and he played the premiere of the Janusz Stalmierski’s Violin Concerto with Czestochowa Filharmonic Orchestra. He is a holder of scholarships from Minister of Culture, Aleksander and Jolanta Kwasniewski (President of Poland) Young Talents’ Fund, the scholarship for participation in “Musica Mundi” International Chamber Ensemble Course in Brussels, Belgium and “Morningside Music Bridge” Course in Calgary, Canada. He plays French violin made by the member of Frebinet family from the end of 18th century.
