String Quartet "Lutolslawski Quartet"

The Lutoslawski Quartet Wroclaw was established in 2007. The ensemble comprises, among others, leaders of the Wroclaw Philharmonic: Marcin Markowicz – II violin, Artur Rozmyslowicz – viola, Maciej Mlodawski - cello. Since March 2009 the first violin player of the Quartet is a prominent violinist – Jakub Jakowicz. Despite their brief period of activity the ensemble has already given concerts at the International Festival Wratislavia Cantans, International Chamber Arts Festival Ensemble, Witold Lutoslawski Festival „Chain VI”, Silesian Quartet and Guests, Musica Polonica Nova, KlaraFestival in Brussel and Jazztopad Festival. They have performed with the Silesian Quartet, Royal String Quartet and Iturriaga Quartet as well as with Paul Gulda, Bruno Canino, English oboist Nicolas Daniel, Polish soloists Tomasz Strahl, Pawel Kowalski, Ryszard Groblewski and also with the legendary jazz players such as Kenny Wheeler and John Taylor. The ensemble gave a wonderful performance of Martinu's Concerto for string quartet and orchestra with the Wroclaw Philharmonic under the baton of Jacek Kaspszyk, which was highly praised by musical critics. In December 2010 the quartet performed in Brussels Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in closing of the International Chopin’s Year. In cooperation with the Recording Company CD Accord and special guests such as Krzysztof Jakowicz and Andrzej Bauer the ensemble recorded the first CD presenting all chamber pieces of Witold Lutoslawski. The recording was nominated for award Fryderyk 2009 (Polish Grammies). In 2010 the Lutoslawski Quartet Wroclaw made recording of Quartets by Szymanowski, Shostakovitch and Markowicz for its debut CD which will be soon released. The Lutoslawski Quartet focuses on XX century and contemporary chamber music, disseminating alos Polish masterpieces such as Lutoslawski’s, Bacewicz’s and Szymanowski’s. Moreover, the ensemble performs also works composed by one of its member – Marcin Markowicz, as well as Classical and Romantic masterpieces. As a versatile group they are open to diverse musical inspirations, having in their repertoire attractive classical and romantic masterpieces as well as jazz music.


Jakowicz Jakub

In 2001, following an invitation by conductor Pinchas Steinberg he made his debut with the Munich Philharmonic in a performance of Karol Szymanowski’s Violin Concerto No. 1.

Markowicz Marcin

The concertmaster of the Wroclaw Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and from 2005 Artistic Director of the Ensemble International Chamber Music Festival.

Rozmyslowicz Artur

Soloist and a member of the Wroclaw Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.

Mlodawski Maciej

Principal cello of the Wroclaw Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.
