Domanska Joanna

She started piano studies in the Music Academy in Crakow with professor Jan Hofman, and she graduated with distinction from the Academy of Music in Katowice, in the piano class of professor A. Jasinski (in 1982).

 


She continued her piano studies with Livia Rév in Paris (1986-1987) on a grant from the Government of France.
She is laureate of international piano competitions M. Long – J. Thibaud in Paris (1981) and A. Casagrande in Terni, Italy (1982), as well as of the Young Stage at the Polish Piano Festival in Slupsk (1982). She has been invited to participate in music festivals worldwide, such as the Festival dei Due, Mondi in Spoleto, Festa Musica Pro in Assisi, Maggio Musicale Florentino in Florence, Festival de Radio France et de Mont pellier, Warsaw Autumn, the Cracow Composer Days, the Days of the Music of K. Szymanowski in Za ko pane, the Polish Piano Festival in Slupsk and the Chopin Festival in Duszniki.
In 1995, the British record company Olympia published her album with performances of music by Karol Szymanowski. The record met with an enthusiastic response from reviewers and was twice nominated to the “Fryderyk” award given by the phonographic industry in Poland. In 2007 DUX published her second album, recorded with Andrzej Tatarski: the first ever performance of a piano version of the music to Szymanowski’s ballet Harnasie, adapted for two pianos. Joanna Domanska has recorded for Polish Radio and Television, Radio - televisione Italiana and Radio France.
Currently she teaches piano class at the Academy of Music in Katowice, participates in juries at Polish and international piano competitions and lectures at master courses. For several years now she has been deputy president of the Karol Szymanowski Music Association.
